For some, the days of tank tops, flip flops, and outside BBQs are coming to an end, as the summer season departs. Fall has officially begun and the cool, crisp weather of the season is sure to settle in. That means pumpkin spice, warm sweaters, and big cups of peppermint hot cocoa are near on the horizon. Even better still is what some people consider to be the best holiday of the year, and perhaps the single best thing about fall, is what happens every 31st of October. I’m talking about Halloween, of course! The spooky air of Halloween has people all over the country decorating their homes with skeletons, jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, and layers of creepy spider webs strung from every corner of the house. Aside from all the blood and the gore, here to help soothe your craving for everything scary during the month of October is a list of 10 of the scariest beds in Halloween history!
1. Coffin Beds
If you're a fan of Halloween, then it's highly likely you have watched a movie about vampires. One of the most famous vampires, known as Count Dracula, actually slept in a coffin. This appears to be relatively normal for vampires. But, as it turns out, this is one bed on the list that you can have one of your very own!
2. The Exorcist Bed
Most fans of scary movies and Halloween have seen the iconic scene in The Exorcist (1973) where the head of a possessed girl named Regan spins 360 degrees around in a full circle. Her arms and legs are tied to restraints on the bed, but that doesn’t stop her from seriously freaking us out! On the other hand, though, all that extra bedding ought to make it real comfortable.
3. Nightmare On Elm Street
Nightmare On Elm Street, a film made in 1984, is another horror movie that features a scary bed. In the movie, Glen, a victim of Freddy Krueger, is sucked down through a portal in the bed causing a tornado of blood to shoot out and swirl mysteriously on the ceiling as Glen's dead body is redeposited onto the mattress.
4. Poltergeist
The Poltergeist (1982) is a popular scary movie about a family that tries to find their daughter after she was abducted by paranormal entities who were occupying their home. This iconic movie is sure to be a staple in everyone's Halloween movie binge sessions, but for those who haven’t yet seen this cult classic, a toy clown attempts to strangle the life out of their young son while he is laying down in his bed. A scene that most certainly has caused some nightmares for children and adults alike, since its first debut.
5. Mama
A more recent addition to the horror movie list is a movie known as Mama. Made in 2013, two young orphaned girls get lost in the woods where a paranormal being looks after them in an abandoned house for 5 years before they are finally reunited with their Uncle. The evil spirit followed them to their new home and began haunting the new family. In one scene, Mama appears under the bed and slithers around, frightening their new mother.
6. The Grudge
The Grudge is a movie about a mysterious haunted house that passes an evil curse on to those who enter it. Eventually, the curse spreads to a woman who in one scene can be seen sleeping in her bed. She wakes up and feels something moving down by her feet underneath the blanket on her bed. Suddenly she gets pulled down and lifts the covers, revealing the evil spirit who takes the woman and vanishes from beneath the covers.
7. The Conjuring 2
The Conjuring 2 is one part of several movies that depicts the story of two paranormal investigators whose job it is to rid people’s houses of evil spirits or haunted objects. This time they set out to help a single mother of four young girls. In one super spooky scene, a young girl runs up a flight of stairs to hide in her bed from an evil spirit. She hops in, turns on a flash light, and gets under the sheets. The evil spirit rips the sheet from on top of her and violently begins shaking her bed.
8. Annabelle Comes Home
In Annabelle Comes Home, another movie from the Conjuring story line, two paranormal detectives bring a haunted doll to their home where they keep it in a special room with other haunted objects. Little do they know that the doll's evil spirit awakens other entities in the room. Their daughter becomes a target in one scene where she is awakened in her bed. Something can be seen beneath the sheets, tugging her down further on the mattress. When she lifts up the sheet to see what is there, Annabelle appears bringing with her another evil spirit.
9. Darkness Falls
In this movie centered in a small town in Maine, there is a well-known legend of an old woman who was tragically murdered in the 1800’s because it was suspected she was killing local children. Hundreds of years later, the townspeople now have to deal with her vengeful wrath in Darkness Falls. In one scene, a young boy is awakened in bed by a strange shadow dancing around his room and making eerie noises. He pulls the cover back over his face after grabbing a flashlight. Eventually, he peeks out from under the covers where he is suddenly startled by a scary black figure who is wearing a porcelain mask.
10. Misery
Although Misery may not be the first movie that comes to mind when one thinks of horror films, it still has one of the scariest bed scenes of all time! This movie is a popular psychological thriller about a famous writer whose car crashes during the winter in an extremely rural area. Unfortunately, he is injured during the process, but as luck would have it, he is rescued by his greatest fan who takes him to her home to nurse him back to health. Unfortunately, she turns out to be a little more than he bargained for and eventually restrains him to the bed. In one scene, she even goes so far as to hobble him so that he is unable to run away.
